UNIRENT

It was named after the Bishop Josip Juraj Strossmayer (1815 – 1905), a prominent member of the Croatian Cultural Revival and an eminently influential person of the 19th-century society and politics. There are magnificent views from the promenade of the Down Town, and of the Zagreb Cathedral and the whole Kaptol. The promenade got its final form at the beginning of the 20th century when public stairs, fence walls and lamps were added. Citizens of Zagreb and its visitors like to walk along the promenade and rest a little next to the great Croatian poet and writer Antun Gustav Matoš (1873 – 1914) on The statue of Matoš resting on a bench. This original monument is the work of the well known sculptor Ivan Kožarić (1921).
